Review on Samsung Galaxy Prevail

The Samsung Galaxy Prevail hitches with sophistication and good value to become the best Boost Mobile’s smart phone. There are rumors of the new Samsung Galaxy mobile phone for the Boost Mobile and we have imagined that the handset is very much like the Samsung Mesmerize for the US Cellular. Samsung has incorporated this phone with sophisticated and elegant design. The Galaxy Prevail is the Boost Mobile’s second Android Smart Phone. This smart phone runs on an Android 2.2 Froyo operating system.

The handset is more fashionable with a smooth finish, but there are even disappointing specs such as the 2MP Camera. The low end and the midrange components make the phone more affordable that is appropriate for a Boost Mobile.

Design

It has a soft touch finish on the back cover and spines that balances the reflective black face. A dark grey metallic like looking accents are furnished on the front, back and the sides that gives the handset a phone polish look. The screen curves at the top and bottom in a way that it calls up on an infinity pool. Prevail sports a dimension of 4.4 inches in length, 2.26 inches in width and 0.47 inch in thickness. It has got a light weight of 3.8 ounces. It has a very glossy surface. This phone easily glides into pockets.

Display

It sports a decent 3.5 inches TFT capacitive touch screen display with HVGA resolution of 800×480 pixels. This is quite a small touch screen and is comfortable for the touch screen navigation. The display is bright with good clarity and the icons and the icons are sharp. You will find a major difference only when Prevail is compared with other Galaxy Smart phones, as they sport Super AMOLED displays. However the resolution is fine for average usage.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Prevail sports an average 2MP camera with a camcorder. But many other medium budget phones sports 3.2MP camera. However the Prevail shows that the number of Mega Pixels doesn’t transform to higher quality pictures and footage. The camera delivers decent pictures with good picture quality with bright indoor shots. You have options to adjust white balance presets with color effects along with other camera settings.

Features

Though Prevail runs o an Android operating system, its feature set is quite different from other Android mobile handsets. The OS is very simple to use that brings the ability to view the Flash content. But unfortunately, the Boost Mobile has hindered the Froyo’s hot spot feature. Similar to every Android Froyo phones the Prevail features texting and supports social networking apps like Facebook and Twitter. It also has a good integrated Email support that has message inbox that supports multiple POP, IMAP and all the exchange accounts. It features good internet apps like Google Search, Google maps, Google places and G-Talk as instant messaging. It also supports YouTube streaming. The handset comes with a standard music player that can play multi formats. It also features organizer, calendar, real time clock and a calculator.

Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy Prevail comes preloaded with good number of third party apps like Hookt, Poynt, Scvngr, Layar, Task Manager, ThinkFree Office, Twidroyd and TeleNav GPS navigator. Boost Mobile also includes the links for managing your Boost accounts. Interestingly it features Swype app that facilitates you to type the letters as it traces the exact words and makes easy for your texting than using the virtual keyboard. It also facilitates you to switch back to your standard keyboard when you like.

The phone comes with an internal memory of 124 MB. 2GB microSD card is provided along with this handset. But the memory can be expanded up to 32 GB.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Prevail is been tested on the dual band (CDMA 800/1900 with 1xEV-DO Rev.A). The call quality was acceptable. The voice clarity was good and sounded natural. But the background noise kept the voices’ of our callers breaking during conversation. But we didn’t hear any major disturbances. On the other end, some callers said the voices sounded a bit unnatural.

The Prevail uses the 800MHz processor. However phones with 1GHz processors have faster speeds. But the Prevail is quite fast.

Data transfer is quite high, as within few seconds you can download your favorite site. The phone comes with a 1500mAh Li-Ion standard battery that offers a good battery talk time up to 6.5 hours and up to 9 days on stand-by time.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy Prevail is a unique elegant device with a reasonable price. It has an acceptable HVGA resolution. The 2MP camera is quite good that produced better images than expected. The Prevail takes over the top spot as the Boost Mobile’s best smart phone. It may not be as advanced as a dual core 4G phone, but this handset deserves the Galaxy name and one would wish to own this phone.
