Review on Asus K53E-B1 Notebook

The Asus introduces its latest powerful, multimedia and a general purpose consumer notebook, the K53E-B1. This works on the new 2.3 GHz Intel core i5 dual core processor and comes with a 640 GB large hard drive. It comes preinstalled with MS Windows 7 (64 bit) professional operating system. It notebook is user friendly with a very good multimedia and is available for reasonable price. This comes with the latest Intel HD Graphics. The notebook is built to provide very good features.

 

Design

 

The Asus K53E-B1 has a very good look, inside and outside. It sports a fine textured plastic along with dark bronze finish. It even sports a chrome ASUS logo in the center of the front panel. The delicate pin strip surrounding gives an elegant look. Even though it is very prone to fingerprint smudges and the etched groves break these smudges. It features a brushed metallic finish for the palm rest with a keyboard trim. The palm rest is very prone to fingerprint smudges but can be wiped and cleaned easily with a cloth. This notebook sports a dimension of 15.6 inches in length, 10.2 inches in width and 1.4 inches in thickness. This notebook can be carried easily with the backpack as it weighs 5.8 pounds. But this is quite heavier for this class of notebooks.

 

Display

 

The K53E-B1 offers a 15.6 inches widescreen display with a standard resolution of 1366×768 pixel. It has a very display panel that tends to pick up reflections in any brightly lit room. The contrast and color reproduction were on average. The black levels were almost muted. The display has good viewing angles with the lines between the pixels being nearly visible during web browsing or document typing. Despite of adequate brightness levels the level of brightness in outdoors do not remains the same.

 

Keyboard

 

If you like Chiclet style of keyboards, the Asus K53E-B1 provides you with a pleasant typing experience. The keyboard has a spacious arrangement with well placed keys. The buttons on the keyboard is easily reachable by your fingers. It features a number pad along with the dedicated buttons for multimedia functions. Since the Asus K53E-B1 doesn’t provide direct access to all multimedia notebooks as you can adjust the volume, brightness and other functions using the function key combos provided.

 

It also features a 3.25×2 inches ELAN touch pad. This touch pad is quite spacious and is easy to handle. Multi finger input can be easily provided. The touch pad facilitates you to scroll through photos documents using a three finger flicks and also gives an ability to launch My Computer, My Documents and switching windows using a three finger swipe up/down.

 

Audio features and Graphics

 

The Asus K53E-B1 features Altec Lansing speakers at the bottom of the notebook. A faux mesh speaker grills are located above the keyboard. While streaming the Yellowcards’s Ocean Avenue, the volume was quite loud but the audio didn’t show a rich or balanced quality as the XPS 15 which possesses a subwoofer.

Regarding the Graphics the K53E-B1 comes with a latest Intel GMA HD Graphics card that is quite strong and gives a good performance. This graphic interface had scored 4260 in 3DMark06, wherein it surpassed the current average of 3625. The Toshiba A665 also had almost a same graphics score of 4242. But we noticed that the discrete AMD GPU in the Acer 4820TG marked an even high score of 7844. The Asus K53E-B1 had been undergoing gaming tests these days and had given good performance and we are sure that it provides the user with good gaming experience.

 

The Asus K53E-B1 features some standard ports, but the latest high speed connectivity is lacking. It sports three USB 2.0 ports with VGA and HDMI video port. It also features a Gigabit Ethernet port. The USB 3.0 port and eSata port supports faster back up to the compatible external drive. It also sports a spring loaded SDHC card reader below the palm rest.

 

Performance

 

The Asus K53E-B1 comes with a 2.3 GHz Intel core i5 dual core processor and also includes 6 GB DDR3 RAM along with Intel GMA HD Graphics. This combination in this laptop delivers good performance from this notebook. It scored about 5729 in PCMark Vantage which surpassed the current average main stream category of 5154 and with a edge with Toshiba Satellite A665-S5176. The Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG’s has got a highest score on the same test. The 640 GB hard drive takes 70 seconds to launch a Home Premium version of Windows 7 operating system. The K53E-B1 takes only 2 mins 53 secs to copy a data of 5 GB of mixed media files with an average speed of 29.4 Mbps, nearly 5 Mbps quicker than the average. But overall the performance is good.

 

The Asus K53E-B1 comes with a good reasonable and affordable price. With an excellent design and amazing features this notebook is set to become the user’s choice.
