This tutorial is for activating 3G internet connection if you own a Samsung Galaxy S2 phone and using Vodafone SIM in your device. This is specifically for SGS2 because I own this phone and even I had difficulties while activating 3G internet connections on my phone, but now I got it solved and 3G is activated and working very fine with amazing speed up to 7.2 mbps.
NOTE: You can still try the same procedure in case if you are using handsets other than SGS2, but I’m sure these steps will definitely help if you are using any ANDROID based phones, For example: Samsung Galaxy S, pop, fit, gio, mini, HTC devices etc, why I’m telling you this is because all android phone have almost similar settings.
Before I start with this procedure, I think your device has been already activated with 2G internet connection, with 2G internet usage you can see E(edge) displayed in the notification bar when you access internet but once you activate 3G it displays 3G or H+ in the notification bar. Let me tell you Vodafone has launched 3G service only for specific areas and this 3G service are provided by Airtel service providers as Vodafone has not yet launched their own 3G service.
Steps to activate 3G:
- First you have to send a message “ACT 3G” to 111, after sending the message you should get a confirmation reply saying ‘3G on your device is activated’ within 24 hrs, and in case if you don’t get this service activated. Send another message “3G” to 111.After this you will get a 3G confirmation message.
- Now in your phone open SETTINGS >> WIRELESS AND NETWORKS>>MOBILE NETWORKS>>NETWORK OPERATORS.
- Once you select network operators, this will take few seconds to generate the list of service providers, once the list is displayed select “AIRTEL”. (As I said earlier Vodafone are providing 3G internet from Airtel assistance).
- That’s it now you can check your notification bar for H+ or 3G service and before that make sure you have enabled ‘Packet data ’(Settings>wireless and network>mobile network>use packet data) on your device. If this doesn’t make any change then turn off and turn on your phone once and check.
If you are a pre paid user you can go for 3G data plans recharge, depending upon your usage. Let me tell you, I’ve tried the above steps which were guided by a Vodafone customer care representative on my device and this worked, in case if you face any difficulties while following the steps you can let us know with your comments.
