Design

The HS-300 is very compact and light weight with a minimalistic design. However, it does not have any fresh appeal in its design. It is completely made of plastic and it is accented with a soft touch coating. The texture of the headset makes it look free from dirt. The ear gels that are included do not offer an acceptable snug fit. The ear gels feel bare and can be worn for a ling period of time without causing any irritation in the ear. The hook anyhow clips on the top of the ear avoiding all these issues. The region with the Blackberry logo has a call button that can perform variety of functions. The power switch is a sliding type of switch and it is simple to use. The end of the boom has the microphone while the opposite side has the micro USB port.

Features

The HS-300 headset has the voice prompts that alert the user regarding the status of the battery, the mute status, etc. The rapid charging feature is also good as it offers the headset a talk time of 2 hours for a quick charge of 15 minutes only. The automatic volume control feature helps in adjusting the volume of the headset automatically depending on the location. This helps the users to concentrate more on the conversation rather than controlling the volume. The headset is specially designed to be compact, affordable and simple to use.

Performance

The headset could have had some manual controls despite the presence of the automatic volume control feature. The voices have a dispersed tone and they feel crackly when heard through the headset. This makes the users difficult to comprehend the voices the callers on the other end are not pleased with the quality as the voices sound with a mute tone to them. The microphone picks up every sound right from the tapping of a pen. This reduces the clarity of the conversation. The rapid charging feature is a good one in the headset. The headset offers a talk time of 3.75 hours which is less than that claimed by the manufacturer.

Conclusion

The HS-300 does not have beauty on the list and it is a basic option which is not too attractive in design. The complete plastic construction of the headset and the below average quality are acceptable as it has a low price tag of $49.99. Apart from the impressive battery life, the headset does not have any of the features that are expected out of a Bluetooth headset. Pros – quick charging time and light weight design. Cons – cheap construction quality, poor call quality and uninspiring design.
