The Comet U8150 has been manufactured by Huawei. The design of the Comet U8150 is similar to that of the T-Mobile’s previous model, the Tap. The exterior of the handset is quite plasticky. It is supplemented with a gunmetal textured bezel, rounded corners and the soft touch coated strips along the sides. These attributes of design give the handset a modest look.
The Comet U8150 sports a small touch screen display of 2.8 inches. This screen has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and also supports 256 K colors. The small size and the low resolution of the screen make the display unsuitable for the layout of text. The colors appear washed out and there is a drastic change in the tone when viewing at certain specific angles. The screen has poor sunlight legibility and hence viewing it under sunlight is difficult. However, it is responsive in nature as it is a capacitive.
Under the display, there us a strip of custom Android keys such as the Menu, Home, Search and Back keys. There is also a directional pad and the send and end keys. These are the very bottom of the Comet U8150. The keys are all prone to accidental presses and this is because of their placement. The directional pad has a select key at the middle which offers a tactile feedback when it is pressed.
The top edge of the Comet U8150 has the 3.5 mm audio jack while the bottom edge has the micro USB port. The left side of the handset houses the volume rocker which has a chrome finishing. This button is quite large in size. The right side houses no control buttons. The rear side of the Comet U8150 has the T-Mobile and the Google brandings and also the 3.2 megapixel camera lens. The speaker is also found here.
The Comet U8150 uses the Android 2.2 operating system. It offers a great amount of personalization. The handset uses a Qualcomm MSM7225 processor which has a clock speed of 528 MHz. the scrolling across the different home screens is smooth as long the live wallpapers are not used. The Comet U8150 has the native synchronizing of the Twitter and Facebook contacts with the address book. This allows the users to peek at the status updates of the contacts within the Contacts applications.
The 3.2 mega pixel camera which is on board is not extraordinary. The images appear blurry and they also lack some details. There is a bluish tinge on most of the photos that are captured under artificial lighting. The images taken in the low light conditions are prone to lot of noise. Overall, the images are of soft tones and uninspiring details. The camcorder is capable of recording only low quality videos. These have large amounts of pixelation too. The capture rate is also dismal.
The presentation of the Android music player is lacking. It offers only the bare essentials. However, it is quite functional. It has stringent level of audio. It sounds little screechy when the volume levels are too high. The video player of the Comet U8150 can play the low quality videos smoothly. Higher resolution videos appear choppy.
The handset exhibits some static noise in the background which is fairly noticeable. The voices sound hollow when conversing. The speaker phone produces sound which is extremely audible along with the presence of some boisterous tones. The voices however have a crackly sound. The battery which is included in the Comet U8150 is expected to provide a life of about 9 hours of talk time and about 288 hours of stand by time.
