Sony Ericsson A8i is the first handset from Sony Ericsson to support TD-SCDMA network. It has formally announced the release for Sony Ericsson A8i in china. It is specifically for china market as it is developed in agreement with china mobile. It runs the Android OS and delivers high performance. It is very stylish and is designed well to suite the requirements of china people. It gives the best consumer experience by providing good communication and entertainment features. Pricing and other details are yet to be revealed and it will be available for purchase starting the fourth quarter of 2010.
Sony Ericsson A8i has an excellent design with sleek body. It comes with a TFT display of 256K colours where the display is touchscreen. It comes with 3.5 inch TFT screen size with 480 x 854 pixels. It has a dimension of 117 x 59 x 14 mm and weighs 136g. The keys are highly responsive. The display is covered with scratch resistant material. The phone can be flipped open smoothly and it offers very comfortable keys which are well placed and easy to operate. It can be carried comfortably in ones pocket and also in your hand. It comes in two colours – black and shiny white. A8i is very similar to Xperia X10. Sony Ericsson is now famous for providing a human curvature design and this A8i also includes this feature.
Sony Ericsson is equipped with a highly responsive touch screen and has managed to provide a user friendly interface. When the slider is closed we can see physical controls for menu, home screen and a back button below the display. The volume rocker and camera button are present on the right hand side of the phone. There is a power button at the top edge of the phone and the USB charger port and a 3.5mm headphone jack are present at the bottom. The camera lens and flash are located at the back as usual. Inside the battery compartment is the microSD memory card.
Sony Ericsson is equipped with four shortcuts buttons on each corner of the home screen. They are music player, messaging, phonebook and phone dialler. By pressing the arrow at the bottom of the screen, one can access the main menu. The A8i has a 5MP camera with LED, geo-tagging and auto focus which is a boon for such handsets with low price. It also supports video recording with the use of camera. It has internal memory of 200 MB but can be extended up to 32GB by using microSD memory card. The A8i is very similar to X10 in terms of music options. It has a speaker phone and 3.5 mm audio jack.
The other basic features it supports are notepad, alarm clock, Google search, Gmail, maps, calendar, YouTube, digital compass, Games etc. The connectivity is via GPRS, Edge, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth with A2DP. It has WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML browser.
The call quality is good as usual and it offers a battery life of 5 hours talk time in 2G and up to 7 h 30 min in 3G. It also has stand-by time up to 260 h both in 2G and 3G.
