Somatic Experiencing Therapy

Traditional types of therapies with persistent problems are mainly focused on the emotions and thoughts of the persons who are treated. They are treated with cognitive treatment where the actions and habits of thoughts are changed with great success. Deeper misconceptions of actions and thoughts are mainly targeted and replaced with the healthy attitudes, hence addressing them with success thereby enhancing childhood relational issues.

Whenever a child or an individual suffers from the neglectful parenting, then we can’t achieve success only by addressing them with cognitive treatments but also it is required proper addressing of the inner facts of the inner biology of the body. The main reason for this is dysfunction of the inner biology of the body and also due to the fact that the nervous system being not addressed.

Somatic Experiencing therapy is developed by a person named Dr. Peter Levine. He did his research and exploded certain facts while studying the wild animals. He compared the animals with mammals where stress will be almost nil in case of animals. But still he tells that there is something that is known as self healing therapy or motivation in everybody that self regulates and that heals the trauma within us.

Every human being experiences natural rhythms and pulsations like heart rate, breath, digestion, and sleep/wake cycles and so on are the resonances that are treated as health or the diseases that attacks our system. Somatic Experiencing practitioners helps clients by giving training regarding how to identify the rhythms that are manifested in our body, also supporting them to self experience and to feel them. Simultaneously, they keep in track of the client’s nervous system signals and accordingly monitoring them to discharge stress and to restore the natural rhythms automatically.

Steps in Somatic Experiencing Therapy

1)    Creating awareness or making them to feel the sense of that moment or to orient themselves to one’s surroundings is a basic step in bringing the healing process.

2)   The next important step is to identify the root cause of the problem or where the problem lies actually so that healing becomes easy if that particular location is targeted. This is done by making them to feel good about the moment and relatively safe from it.

3)   Arousing the sensations, moving towards the feelings, challenging thoughts with the inherent safety is the next important step towards it. This movement should be small and gentle.

4)   Then the practitioner asks client to direct back their attention to the resource so that they gain a safety feeling even after they have relation with the challenging material that is present inside. This creates a pendulation process between the two sides.

5)   After the pendulation, the nervous system automatically discharges the stress which is stored in them through many modes. Common symptoms are discomfort, nausea, skin flushing, involuntary movements that allows body to become less strain, stressful and with more resilience.
