Scents used as aphrodisiacs

Aphrodisiacs are mainly used to attract the opposite sex together and these are used from thousands of years. Some of the anciently used aphrodisiacs are flowers, foods, oils and even some of the unusual materials are used as stimulants. Even from certain scientific researches, it has been proven that the body itself produces a natural scent which acts as an aphrodisiac. The natural body odours do attract the opposite sex and arouses them. Even many other scents are also used as aphrodisiacs nowadays to exert a pull on the lover. Some of them are discussed below.

Back to the history: Perfumes were described as the ‘Fire of Love’ by the ancient people, that too by Julius Caesar in 100B.C. Myrrh and Frankincense were the most used perfume in Rome at that time. Opiates and perfumes were used by Cleopatra to seduce men. For many aphrodisiac drinks, gold was added during the middle ages and thus those drinks were very costly. Plant and animal substances were used as aphrodisiacs by Aztec and Inca tribal groups to make themselves very desirable to their partners. Bananas and chocolates are used as aphrodisiacs too.

Essential oils: Jasmine scent is the most popular scent which acts as aphrodisiac to both men and women. Even Lavender is also pooled with the other floral oils, patchouli or cedar wood to draw men. The Ylang ylang enhances the energy and libido between the lovers and is painstaking as the most powerful aphrodisiac scents. This perfume is regularly blended with the bergamot, jasmine or rose oils. The awe-inspiring smell from the neroli is useful in flirting while the scent of patchouli is just very relaxing.

Pheremones: These are the natural chemicals produced in the body. When these are released in the body, behavioral changes take place unwillingly without any awareness to that particular being. These pheremones were discovered during 1950 in insects. The scent of these pheremones is not at all identified by the human beings. Some people do recognize the scent as musky but some others don’t even get that.

Other people hate this scent produced by the body. Other mammals do identify this pheromone smell with the help of a gland which is present on the top portion of the nose. These pheremones do cause the sexual excitement. Some perfume companies in today’s world add these pheremones to the perfume they manufacture which helps in arousal of other sex.

Scents in Religion and Mythology: As per Indian religion, the scents are applied to the body of women to daub various spots and to haul up her fortitude. In this Indian religion, women are considered as the sacred creative force (Shakti) and are worshipped. There are some of the aphrodisiac oils which promote the balance between body, mind and soul; they are anise, pine, geranium, cypress and angelica.

Scents used for Rituals: Ginger is an aphrodisiac and it is also mentioned in Kama Sutra. Both blood circulation and skin are improved and nourished respectively by using ginger. Warm and spicy whiffs augment the perspiration which then directs to high production of chemicals which leads to sexual attraction. Toxins are also removed from the body by these therapeutic effects and are really beneficial. It also stimulates the body from brain to toes.
