Samsung M5650 Lindy Review
Samsung M5650 Lindy seems to be the most wonderful model from Samsung because of its friendly plasticky design, modern interface with the optional cartoonish graphics on top, rich social integration, feature of inheriting the original traditions that are neat and precise. The most important thing about it is a capacitive touchscreen that is made available at an affordable price. Similar to all other models of the Samsung family, even this model Lindy tries to break up the clone syndrome by ensuring its own set of special powers and features. Some of them are 3.5mm audio jack, Wi-Fi connectivity, dedicated music keys etc.
Key Features of Samsung M5650 Lindy
Samsung Lindy has a capacitive touchscreen measuring 2.8” having QVCA resolution, capable of displaying 256K colors. Unboxing the Lindy
Samsung M5650 Lindy comes with a charger, a micro USB data cable and a stylish white 3.5 mm headset which are mandatory in a standard package of the Samsung models. You have to buy an additional microSD card since it is not supplied with it. All these are provided along with the leaflets that give full data and information regarding the composition and working of the model.
Lindy measures 106 x 57 x 12 mm that weighs approximately 98 gms, similar to S3650 Corby in size. We can almost feel that Lindy is the clone of Corby.
Design and Construction
Samsung Lindy is light weight in nature due to its plastic body construction. The surface looks entirely glossy that can take up fingerprints easily. Even after the long use of the phone, many have found out that the phone is more resistant to scratches and physical damages. The phone is ergonomically good in all aspects and also users can have better grip over it due to its oval shaped back panel.
Lindy’s display screen measures about 2.8” which is having a QVGA resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. Al though its image quality is not that impressive as compared to other Samsung phones that are available for more or less price tags similar to Lindy’s price. Its touchscreen is very much sensitive as mentioned earlier since it can respond for even smallest sweeps and taps.
Al though you can’t find anything similar to ambient light sensors for optimizing the screen brightness, still you can find video call camera and ear piece options just above the display screen. The model actually houses six hardware keys, they are present on each side of the Back button and the remaining are the dedicated music control keys. The body of the phone is also integrated with the Call and the End keys that produce distinct audible click noise when it is pressed. The media buttons are blue in color and are set apart. A tiny mouthpiece can be seen right under the play/pause key.
M5650 Lindy houses two sets of control keys on the right side of the phone and they are HOLD key and the shutter button which are used for the purpose of locking and unlocking the touchscreen. Since, both of the keys are placed very closely with little distance of separation, it is not provided with the best touch orientations. Shutter keys are present in the middle which seems to be non convenient to click on the keys while taking the pictures. A microSD card slot is hidden under the battery cover on the same side.
The top left side of the phone houses the lanyard eyelet which is followed by the volume rocker at the middle and the microUSB port under it, which is provided to connect data cable and a charger. Normally, in all Samsung models, an USB slot is covered with a plastic lid. 3.5mm audio jack is featured on the top side but with no protective cap and also the bottom side is bare, having a tiny opening which helps in removing the battery cover easily.
At the rear side of the Lindy, one can find semicircular patterns that are grooved randomly on the surface. There is the loudspeaker grill at the bottom and camera lens at the top side.
Features of Lindy
The Samsung M5650 Lindy also supports multitasking, where the Java applications are minimized to run in the background. There is nothing like a hardware key for allowing the users to switch between the different apps that make multitasking a bit tedious job to deal with it.
The phone book of Samsung Lindy can store upto 2000 contacts in various fields. It has the capacity of displaying the SIM card along with the phone memory at once. Searching a particular contact number can be done by physically typing the contact name. Each of the contacts can be given a unique picture, ringtones and notes as well. Users can even set video caller IDs.
Messaging does the job, still no virtual QWERTY. It can handle all common message types. The phone has a shared editor for MMS, SMS and a separate one for handling emails. User can also use T9 dictionary. May be due to the small screen size, the phone does not have QWERTY keyboard. There is nothing like automatic settings retrieval of native email clients, you need to enter the name manually. The attachment limit for sending the emails lasts up to 5MB which is more than enough for handling file types.
Music Player and FM radio
The music player of the Samsung M5650 is similar to the Star and Jet and is not much altered from M8800 pixon. Users can make filters and can also enjoy automatic playlists. If that seems to be not satisfied to you, you can have your own custom playlists. The selected music lists can be played at the background too. The phone lacks some of the virtual on-screen music buttons like pause, play, and skip in case of music player interface.
The music playing system houses a homescreen widget that is a dedicated key, which allows the quick accessing of the full version of the application using a single tap. Samsung Lindy also features an FM radio along with RDS. It offers intuitive controls, also has the feature Find recognition service that mainly works like Sony Ericsson’s TrackID.
The radio app is quick responding, immediate accessing since just a single tap can allow users to have control over the FM radio to start or to stop the radio, to change the stations etc. Stations can be named by their respective frequencies but you can’t rename them with other names.
