Review on Uebo M200 Media Player

The Uebo M200 media player priced at $130 includes almost the same features as the Western Digital TV Live Pus and the Seagate Free Agent GoFlex TV. The GoFlex Media player included an additional slot for the Seagate hard drive while the WD TV Live plus had advantage with the internet services. The M200 is not that compact but however is only a little more bulky than other products in the category.

Design:

M200 is tall by 2.5 inches, wide by 9 inches and is 6.5 inches deep. These numbers clearly show that the device will not occupy much space in your shelf. The black and white exterior is common for such devices. The media player has almost all the connection options that you would expect like HDMI out, composite and component out and wireless and wired connections. The memory card and USB slots are present on right side of the device. You will need a USB A to B cord in order to use the USB connection.

Interface:

The interface is very smooth, simple and is also easy to navigate. You get an option to browser through the media type. The UI has some quirks like text input but this issue is common in almost all such devices. The device plays almost all the file formats. Supported video formats include DAT, WMV, ISO, IFO, M4V, MOV, MP$, M2TS, MPG, TRP, TS, TP, MKV, RMBV, ASF, RM and of course AVI. Audio formats supports are MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG, ACC and FLAC formats. The device reads such files either from an external hard drive or from the internal drive. The internal drive however has to be installed manually.

The media player also offers some internet services like YouTube, Flickr, Picasa, Internet radio and RSS feeds. Play On media services like Hulu, ESPN and Netflix are also support by the device but however these services need a subscription.

The remote control included is very crowded and of all the buttons, we got confused most with the centre OK button and the arrow keys. M200 can access devices that are in the same network and stream them to your television but it is a pretty common feature in such devices. If you wish to use the device as a wireless then you have no other option than sacrificing one of the USB ports for the WiFi dongle. We always recommend you go with wired connections and prefer WiFi only when most needed.

The device offers some unique internet functions like including a BitTorrent client but it will be useful only depending upon the internal hard drive you have installed. You cannot start downloading using the thumb drive containing the torrent client but you have to install them in the internal drive and proceed. You can use only a 3.5-inch SATA hard drive.

Considering the customization options available with the M200, we recommend it even more than the WD TV Live Plus and the Seagate Free Agent GoFlex TV. However if you are not interested in purchasing a separate 3.5-inch SATA drive, then you have three options to go with.
