Review on HP Photosmart A646

HP Photosmart offers more features compared to its price ranged printers. It is a compact photo printer but fails for speed and quality. It also demands more operating cost.

Design and features:

The printer features two slots for memory sticks and slots for SD card and XD Picture card. It also has a built in Bluetooth support. Interesting feature of the printer is that it is made from 30 percent recycled plastic and 100 percent recycled plastic is used for carrying case construction. HP does not include a battery pack with this portable printer.

It features a 3.45 inch LCD touch screen. The menu options that come along are user friendly and easy to use. You can create greeting cards and stickers with the available editing options however these options are more easily accessible from memory card than on Mac. It has options to display how many prints are possible with the available ink, which will help to change the cartridge on time.

Loading the paper may cause some strain but the touch screen interface makes you forget it. Photosmart A646 takes just a minute or so to complete one photo print and the color distribution seem to be well balanced. As said above, the operating cost will be more in A646 and for a 50 photo print ink cartridge it cost around $24 and HP’s combination pack is available which will cost you around 32 cents per print which is 15 to 16 cents cheaper. A 15-print cartridge comes along with the new pack.

The ink cartridge is placed at the front and it is easy to load and unload the cartridge assisted by the animated display showing how it works. Photos can be shared immediately after printing with the use of instant dry, smear-resistant original HP ink. The printer gives you the option of adding caption to photos before printing.

The Bluetooth enabled printer facilitates easy printing from mobile phones. You can choose borders, clips arts and more. Special effects like blemish removal, sepia tone and slimming can be applied. The printer is ENERGY STAR qualified and 10% efficient than other. Cartridges can be recycled with the Planet Partners program

HP Photosmart A646 is only for those who expect lab-quality photos and it seem to be worth the cost of $150. You can save up to $50 on instant rebate. HP offers one year limited warranty on it and one year toll free support.
