The 24-inch monitor is priced at a low price of $360. Unlike other low price monitors, Acer T230H can be adjusted for its height, tilted and also can be swiveled. Its performance is not that satisfying but cannot complain much considering its price. Though not satisfying, it is definitely not among the worst lot. The monitor will be well suitable for general tasks and also includes a nifty touch screen feature.
When using the touch screen functionality, it is not possible to tilt the screen and hence you will have to try hard working with the monitor. T230H is definitely a better option over other low price monitors but definitely not comparable with the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370.
The monitor has an aspect ratio of 16:9 with its bezel dark gray colored and a never fails to offer a glossy look. The foot stand gives a sleek look with two 9 inches support extending from just above the bottom of the back. Although sleek, the stand grounds the 17 pound weighing monitor fairly. The screen can be adjusted by 3.4 inches for its height.
It can be swiveled to 20 degrees to left or right. The monitor does not come with any pivot option.
The whole panel measures 3 inches in thickness of which 1.4 inches goes for connection and ventilation. The whole width of the panel is 22.3 inches. It does come with most of the connection options including one HDMI, a VGA port, a DVI and a USB port. You will be surprised as Acer includes cables all the three connections apart form the audio cable. The connections are provided at the back right side of the panel as usual for easy reach and accessing. The ports are much deeper and hence some folks may be annoyed when connecting.
Removing the neck will give access to four screw hole by which the monitor can be mounted on the wall. The On Screen Display array includes a power button, volume control, a menu button, Auto and e buttons. The array of button will be found on the right side of the screen. The five preset options available are the User, Standard, Text, Graphics and the Movie. The monitor also allows manual adjustment for it brightness and color. Individual values for red, blue and green colors also can be set. T230H supports HD with resolution up to 1920x1080p.
When DVI connected, it performance was good but not comparable with SyncMaster. In User preset, the monitor shows color tracking problems. The images displayed with a green tint but it can be reduced by changing the color temperature to warm. Like all other low price monitors, it does not display exact black color, not even dark gray but only medium gray. Moving watching experience will result in dissatisfaction as all the 1080p videos were displayed with a green tint. However as said above, when setting the color temperature to warm, there is no much saturation and colors were also displayed accurately.
Like any other LCD monitor, optimal viewing angle for T230H is directly in front. Deviating about 6 inches from the centre in all directions will result is dark display as it uses a TN panel. T230H has a touch screen support but only when running Windows 7. You would however prefer mouse as the screen cannot be tilted when using the touch screen. The performance of the built in speakers were only average. The speakers lack enough bass and as a result, when kept at high volume, it is terrible to hear.
T230H comes with a three year warranty but only for limited parts. Acer offers technical support over mail through its official web site.
