Review on Acer Liquid S100 Mobile Phone

Acer Liquid S100 runs on Android operating system with some of the impressive hardware specs. Hands on with Acer Liquid S100 mobile phone is quite good, the handset has a capacitive touch screen display which measures 3.5 inches. The phone keeps up the name liquid phone because whenever the screen in turned off, it seems like peering into an inky pool. The display really impresses anyone because of its sharpness, brightness features observed when it is viewed from the front view.

The four standard controls that are seen below the screen are home, search, back and menu keys. These controls are regarded as part of the display and hence the backlit touch controls. The phone measures about 115 x 64 x 12.75 mm which is very much closest to the dimensions of the Apple iPhone. The phone weighs about 135gms. Good thing about the phone is that it weighs quite heavy and feels gentle when it is handled.

The outer covering of the phone including bottom, back and top portion is made up of fine plastic but misses a Teflon coating due to which it feels bit cheap. The rear side of the phone is also plastic and is not attractive, gives a creaky look and appearance.

A mini USB port is present in the bottom of the device which is meant for syncing and charging purpose. This is covered by a flutter that does not match the rest of the plastic hence ends up in a sturdy look. The power button is present on the left side of the device and volume rocker, camera button on the right hand side. A series of hidden status LEDs and a 3.5mm headphone jack can be seen on top of the device. The LEDs are present to enlighten the battery, to indicate a call and a new message. This helps user to get the mobile status suddenly at a single glance at the LED.

The arrangement of the keys is bit random and gives an uncomfy feel when an attempt is made to press them especially when a camera button is pressed. In order to wake up the phone from the idle mode, you need to press the power button every time. The device comes with a camera of 5 megapixel resolution but with no flash. A 1350mAh battery is seen when the back cover is opened, every time the battery has to be opened in order to remove or insert the SIM card and micro SD cards. A memory card is also needed along with the internal memory of 256MB for the storage purpose.

It also includes a clear shortcut bar for supporting features like GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, screen brightness and background syncing. Even you can add bookmark shortcuts and normal contacts along with the other widgets, also application shortcuts, for the speed accessing of things what user actually wants.

Being an Android device, it provides a room for enormous benefits of Google integration at the core. The benefited features are signing up with the Google and its Apps, emails, contacts and calendars, Google Maps etc. It supports a mass of apps that allows user to have a great pleasure on using Android phones.

Acer Liquid S100 allows user to add up the common social network informations on to their contacts like Twitter, Picasa, YouTube, Facebook, Flickr etc. They can even keep up the updates of the schedules, alerts along the side of the contacts. The keyboard remains the same as in case of other Android phones but there is a lack of predictive text options. The typing experience is pretty good only if the user types accurately and makes them to feel cumbersome when they are prone to more errors.

The voice over the phone was clear and loud but the long calls are felt bit uncomfortable. Acer’s 5 megapixel camera is a typical one. Even though, the images lacked in sharpness but still auto focusing can be done. Videos can be captured with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and it was good.

Video playback was sharp, and it can support files of formats 3GP, H.263, MPEG4. nemoPlayer is one of the wonderful app that is pre-loaded so as to take care of media and it works well. Acer Liquid allows user to share content over their networks.

The battery has a life time of 12 hours in typical cases that involves typical usage of elements like emails, data, occasional app, GPS service for locating a venue etc. The battery seems to be average if you use media player constantly. The phone needs to be charged every night and in busy days, the battery may go flat.
