Nokia 6600 Slide Review

Nokia has released a simple and noble handset for people who are tired of higher end smart phones. Nokia 6600 is a slide phone which lies between a basic phone and a higher end phone. It is the smallest slide handset that Nokia has released. It has a very good design and it looks stylish with a glossy steel cover. It includes some decent features and is priced reasonably.

Design

The Nokia 6600 has the best design which we have seen in the recent released mid-range phones. It appears like polished pebble and is quite heavy to carry around. Though it is a small phone, it has a big screen which can pretty well display texts and images. It has a blue casing on the D-pad and there are two buttons present on both the sides which has a twist as it looks like a single button it is in fact two buttons placed one above the other. The back case is just awesome to touch with its superb brushed metallic finish. A 3.2 Mp camera is present at the rear with the flash. When you slide it open you can find a decently designed keypad which is adequate for texting.

Features

Display 2.2” TFT QVGA screen,320×240 pixel
Camera 3.2Mp camera with flash
Memory 20Mb, expandable memory upto 4GB

Battery life 3 hours (active), 240hours on standby
Price $190

As mentioned earlier this phone is just a mid-range phone and so you can’t expect higher end features. It has S40 Nokia’s interface which is pretty simple and if you have had a Nokia phone before it will be very easy for one to use. The 6600 has a 2.2” TFT QVGA screen with a resolution of 320×240 pixel providing 16.7 million colours. The phone measures 90x45x14mm.The phone boasts a 3.15Mp camera with a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels so it is capable of giving great pictures and there is built-in flash. This slider phone comes with a secondary camera for video calls. It has a built-in accelerometeric sensor and Bluetooth GPS is another good feature which has a collection of pre-installed Nokia maps. For connectivity it has EDGE, GPRS and 3G which helps in browsing easily. It also includes Bluetooth and USB. The bundle also includes BH-803, Nokia Bluetooth Headset provides great sound quality. It also has pre-installed Opera mini which renders pages like iPhone’s browser. It has an internal memory of 18MB. The 6600 has 1000mAh battery with power which lasts up to 3 hours on talktime (GSM on) and 4 hours (WCDMA on). On standby it lasts up to 240 hours. It is compatible with mp3, AAC,Eaac+, WMA and mp4 formats. It also supports 3GPP H.263 playback and streaming, MPG4 and H.264. it also has an in-built FM radio.

Camera

The 6600 has 3.2 Mp camera with double LED though it is not better than the Xenon flash but it still the camera boosts sufficient light for giving decent night images. It also features 8X zoom and can record VGA quality videos at fifteen frames per second and QVGA quality videos at 30 frames per second.

Performance

The Nokia 6600 phone is a good handset with decent number of features. It has a great design. It grabs attention with copper metallic finish and blue casing. It sounds good during voice calls and 3G performance is well pretty good and we dint encounter any problem in both the cases. The 6600 lacks GPS so it works with Bluetooth GPS Reciever but yet the Nokia maps provided are useful. It is a simple phone with pretty useful features and very friendly interface. When we come to the cons side it weighs around 110g as people are looking for highly compact phones this phone makes an exception by weighing so much which is a bit bulky to carry around. Some people will also be disappointed with its small internal memory. I would just like to end that it is a mid-range phone which is a complete winner with raving performance.
