Lenovo has lined up the many inventive and attractive laptop designs. Lenovo has unleashed another attractive IdeaPad S10-3t netbook to its S10 family. Lenovo has redefined its entire design and this time it includes pivot screen-touch-display to this laptop. It also serves as the PC tablet. The IdeaPad priced at $549 is the prominent competitor for the Apple’s iPad that has a screen of same size and also comparable pricing. The Lenovo IdeaPad offer more ports than the Apple’s iPad, full physical qwerty keyboard and it runs on the PC operating system. But it falls behind of iPad as it is little sluggish at times and thickness. Lenovo IdeaPad is a first netbook to feature faster version of Atom series i.e. N470. it is much more powerful than Atom N450 processor.
The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t has capacitive touchscreen display similar to iPhone. You don’t need to press hard the icons on the screen to accomplish the task. It offers mixed comfortable navigation. With big stereo speakers and smooth lines, the IdeaPad S10-3t appears to be targeted at media user as much as standard Netbook customers with this hybrid.
The S10-3t has flat and sleek design and its curved lines around the edges. The S10-3t is easily portable and much easier to pickup and carry over. It has overcome the defect over its predecessor S10, it is offering full size keyboard and it had replaced bulky battery with a slim battery.
The glossy plastic surrounds the complete outer and inner lid of this S10-3t laptop. The keyboard layout on the bottom half is pearl white, slightly raised outline of white squares in the region of the wrist area. The keyboard, Touchpad and other surrounding area are matte finished and the upper and lower halves are coated with contrast black and white, which looks pretty attractive. On the whole, it appears as Viliv S7 tablet, but it is much more powerful than it.
The keyboard occupies most of the real estate of the panel. Though the keys are tapered, but they are sufficiently large to type up on. This time, Lenovo has come up with full size keyboard, which offer comfortable typing. The Palm rest space is too little as most of the area is consumed by keyboard. Even though the touchpad is small, their textured surface offers easy gliding.
Though the touchscreen responds well, occasionally it doesn’t recognize your tapping. Other times, the touch screen is bit slow and laggy in the way that Atom based Netbooks often just slowdown for no reason at all. The overall result would be rather irritating. You may get frustrated when you tried to watch Hulu videos internet explorer because of delayed gestures response and uncomfortable tango of missed presses. The S10-3t can works decently as eBook reader, however it will be bit heavier in your hand and it has shorter battery life compared to other e-readers.
The S10-3t includes touch specific apps launcher named NaturalTouch, photo browser, ebook/documrnt reader and a media player. These works nicely in tablet mode too with big icons and supporting multitouch gestures like pinch-to-zoom feature. These applications are faster, but some times gesture response is bit sluggish, due to occasional stutter. iPod and iPhone outperforms S10-3t in terms of touch response, but S10-3t performs better than most of the tablets today.
The IdeaPad S10-3t sports a 10.1 inch LED backlit glossy touchscreen, which offers standard native resolution of 1,024×600 pixels. You need little more extra scrolling in webpages. The text and videos look bright and crisp. The speakers sound really well and loud too. It will be pretty ideal for viewing movies in tablet mode.
The S10-3t is powered by faster Intel Atom N470 (1.8GHz). it has DDR2 (667MHz) RAM of 2GB capacity. It has hard drive capacity of 250GB. It is preloaded with Windows 7 Home premium operating system, which is an added bonus as usually other netbook feature Windows 7 starter or Vista. The new N470 is faster than older N450 in terms of performance and efficiency, but it is still far slower than other laptop processors. It is well suited for web browsing, casual gaming and office programs, but it doesn’t playback web videos properly on the screen, hard to cherish these.
The port configurations include a VGA out, few audio ports, 2 USB v2.0 ports, SD card and reader slot. It supports Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t has rather poor battery life. At $549, it managed to offer battery life of just 2 hours and 25 minutes on continuous video playback, very less compared to its price range. Battery life is real disappointment from S10-3t.
The Lenovo includes standard one year warranty with Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t. You can download many drivers from Lenovo’s support website. Lenovo also provides 24×7 toll free telephone assistance and online knowledge base.
