Ingrown fingernail can cause many problems to the people like pain, tenderness, inflammation and also irritation. This problem arises only when the nails start growing inside the flesh and getting embedded in the soft tissue of the skin. Nail deformity, improper trimming of nails and any injury to the nails are the main causes for the ingrown fingernail. People who are suffering from diabetics, curved nails and old people are vulnerable to this ingrown nails.
Remedy and Prevention:
To relieve the pain caused due to this problem, certain things have to be carried out seriously. The most important and popular solution to get rid of this ingrown fingernails is to soak the fingers in lukewarm water. This can be carried out very easily at home itself. Warm water should be filled in a bowl and 2ounce of coconut oil, cider vinegar or tea tree oil should be put into the warm water in the bowl.
Coconut oil contains antifungal, antimicrobial and antibacterial properties which soothes and protects the ingrown nails. The usage of tea tree oil is very essential as it’s used to kill the fungus or bacteria which are allied with the ingrown nails. This tea tree oil is applied topically as it is an antimicrobial agent which doesn’t irritate the sensitive tissues. The fingers should be soaked in the warm water for 20 to 30mins which in turn softens the nails.
Later with this softened nail, the ingrown portion of the nail should be left upwards to avoid sticking of nails to the skin. Coconut oil, tea tree oil or a very mild antiseptic can be applied to a piece of cotton and this cotton should be kept like a wedge in between the skin and the nail. Then the fingers should be wrapped with the bandage loosely. This treatment has to be carried out without fail twice a day, daily and then only the nail stops growing inside the skin.
This remedy is only for the current ingrown fingernails and if carried out regularly, ingrown fingernails may not start up again. If this is removed at the first stage itself then it will not cause heck a problem or pain. People who are undergoing this problem should try cutting their nails straight rather than in V or U shape. By dong this the nails grow straight instead of curving under the skin. Fingernails should not be cut too short and this should be avoided because this may even cause the nails to grow improperly too.
Considerations:
This problem takes a bit long time to cure. After doing this treatment if any inflammation, infection or pain endures then concern doctor must be consulted. Additional treatment to this problem may be suggested by doctor viz. removing a very small portion of the nail itself or cutting the ingrown nail.
