Design

The Venue Pro is slender and elliptical when it comes to the design and it is comfortable when it is in the pocket. It measures 2.5 x 4.8 x 0.6 inches in dimensions and it weighs 6.8 ounces. The handset is on the bigger size which becomes evident with the figures that are mentioned above. The size is larger when compared with the other handsets using the Windows Phone 7 operating system. It however makes up this larger size by employing a solid build for the chassis and a sliding type of QWERTY keyboard.

When speaking about the display, the Venue Pro falls in between the HTC HD7 and the Samsung Omnia 7 as it sports a 4.1 inch display. The display has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It is a capacitive touch screen that makes use of the AMOLED technology. The s screen supports the multi-touch inputs and it is a curved Gorilla Glass display. The handset has a slide out QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard slides from the base rather than the side as in most of the other recent handsets. This keyboard makes the handset to appear too long.

The Venue Pro has a good sliding mechanism and it is slightly tight in the responsiveness. The keyboard is actually appropriately sized and it is comfortable to use. It offers the same feel as that offered by the Blackberry Torch. Under the display, there are three buttons for the back, search and start functions. The sides have the 3.5 mm audio jack and the volume rocker. The back side of the handset has the camera lens and the flash.

Interface

The Venue Pro makes use of the Windows Phone 7 operating system. The Start screen can be customized quickly and updated constantly. It allows the users to have a glance at everything like emails, appointment reminders, game score, time and weather. The users can customize the Live Tiles that are on the start screen. It comes in built with the Microsoft Office Mobile that allows the users to operate the office related documents on the go seamlessly.

Features

The Venue Pro has the messaging features such as SMS, MMS, email and voice mail. The handset lacks support to the instant messaging option. The handset has a built in FM radio and a music player. The player supports the audio files with the AMR, WMA, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ and MPE formats. It also supports the videos with the WMV, VC-1, MPEG 4, 3GP, H.263 and H.264 formats. The handset has the Bing Maps and Search applications and the Internet Explorer Mobile. There are ample connectivity options in the Venue Pro.

Conclusion

The Venue Pro has a distinct sliding mechanism to reveal the keyboard. The keys appear to be raised slightly button they look cramped owing to the narrowness in the design. They offer a rubbery feel and a distinct bounce that helps in gaining an excellent typing experience. The Gorilla Glass type of display is also excellent with sharp and vibrant colors. The display is resistant to scratches too. The company has not taken any efforts to improve the software as it has concentrated more on the hardware. The most disappointing aspect is that the Venue Pro ships with the stock version of the Windows Phone 7 platform. This Dell smart phone is mainly aimed towards the business consumers who know the value of a physical keyboard and the integration with the Microsoft services and applications such as Office.
