Acer S243 Review

If you are looking for ultra thin, glamorous LED display, then go for Samsung SyncMaster XL2370. While the 24 inch Acer S243 shares similar attributes such as LED backlight, ultra thin panel, $300 but it lags behind in the performance. The contrast ratios are worst among all the LED TVs. The color accuracy is better, thanks to high black level. It provides two HDMI cables and no DVI connection; you may have purchase DVI –to-HDMI cable to get it connected to your computers. It is a one of the power efficient LED TV among the other TVs.

Design and features
The 24” Acer S243HL offers 16:9 aspect ratio. Its panel has traditional look and its foot stand is uniquely designed. The L-shaped footstand is 7.4 inch thick and 12.2 inches wide at its widest and 6.3 inches wide at narrowest. The matte gray stand’s wider section extends up to right to include onscreen buttons. The back of the panel is sleek, relatively flat and comes in black matte color.

The panel measures 22.4 inch wide and it is very slim at just 0.6 inches thick. The bezel of the screen measures 0.7” on all edges and the screen itself has foggy matte finish. The bezel at bottom of the display measures 3.5” above the desktop. You can’t adjust its screen height and there are no privileges for pivot rotation or screen rotation in portrait mode. You can just tilt the screen up to 15 degrees; it is the only ergonomic feature.

The S243HL has one VGA and two HDMI ports. Unfortunately, it doesn’t feature DVI port. You have to purchase HDMI to DVI cable to connect the monitor their computers. All these ports are present at the back similar to TV connections; this facilitates easy access to ports.

The OSD array which includes a left and right button, a menu button, preset shortcut ‘e’ buttons is oriented vertically on the front of the stand.  There are built-in speakers are located left of the OSD array. A cool blue glowing LED will looks great especially in dark. The OSD has 5 presets: Text, Graphics, Movie, Standard and User. You can adjust the brightness, color temperature, contrast and you can also alter red, blue and green values individually.

The 16:9 aspect ratio of the S243HL supports “Full High Definition” native resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. Nowadays, most of the vendors are moving towards 16:9 from 16:10 because of high definition content, especially 1080p videos, which fits nicely into the screen of 1920×1080 pixels in full screen mode without stretching the picture.

Performance
The Acer S243HL’s performance is affected by color problems. In color tracking, it was slightly tinted towards green rather than preferable gray. The S243HL fails to deliver true black color and its black appears more or like dark gray. This has adverse affect on other display colors. There is some backlight clouding and black clouding across the corners of the screen.

The S243HL has a brightness score of 217 candelas per square meter (cd/m2) and has a very low contrast ratio of 238:1. the games looked good using default User preset. It also supports wide angle viewing. The audio clarity of speakers is pretty good without any distortion.

The digital SAR of the Acer S243HL is 23.3 Watts and far better relating to XL2370’s 30.09watts. It will cost you $7.49 annually as an energy cost. Overall, it is power efficient and consumes less power comparing to other LED TVs.

Acer includes standard 3 year warranty on limited parts and labor warranty that covers backlight also. Acer also offers 24×7 toll free telephone assistance and E-mail support. You can also download many drivers from the Acer’s support website.

    Hi Friends, I have been using this monitor for a week. Acer S 243HL monitor is pretty good.
    I am fully stisfied with this one. The only disadvantage is, when we saw from the bottom view the picture is looking dull. Othor than that everything is fine. This is cost wothy.
