Western Digital’s WD TV Mini Review

Western Digital releases its WD TV Mini, with a lower price, having fewer features than its predecessor WD TV. The name itself suggests it is a Mini TV measuring 91 x 91 x 22 mm. The Build quality is good with top quality plastic at the sides to give a glossy look. WD TV Mini has a small handy remote control with convenient buttons but the disappointing feature is that it comes without the backlight which could have been used in the dark. System supports FAT32, NTFS and HFS+ drive formats so that any external drive can be connected to it. Audio quality is excellent.

Indicators are present on the front side for the purpose of power button and to indicate the presence of USB drive. TV can be turned on and off only through the remote control. USB port which supports the connection of an external drive is mounted on the right side of the WD TV Mini. The model houses a Single USB port but the previous WD TV has 2 USB Ports. Ports meant for connecting the power adapter, video cable, composite audio/video cable are placed on the rear side.

Image playback is supported. HD image files can be viewed; images looked good except some pixilation. The model is featured with a Grid view that shows all the images at once on a screen. Time interval between the transitions can be set by the user. Price of the WD TV mini is Rs.6000. Some of the disappointing facts with this TV are that it does not support HD files along with some standard formats, absence of built in memory and 1080p support is also out.
