Tips to clear a Blocked Nose

A blocked nose makes you to feel stuffy and sometimes you will be having runny nose too. It may also trouble your ears, also creates problem while speaking and hearing.

Prolonged running nose leads to snoring and sleeping problems too. This blocked nose is caused due to the inflamed blood vessels, as a result the tissues present on the lining of the nose swells and results in puffy and blocked nose. This condition is also termed as “nasal congestion”. It can also be caused due to the flu, common cold, sinus infection and other allergies etc. If you use nasal sprays often then you are more likely to suffer nasal blockages.

Home remedies can be done in order to get relief from blocked nose but when the condition worsens, consulting the doctor could be preferable.

Decongestants and antihistamines plays a vital role in curing blocked nose since they shrinks the blood vessels present in the nose region thus relieves the blocked nose and they also reduces the mucus build up in the nasal passage. Block age in the nasal passage can be minimized by using a humidifier, drinking hot tea and a broth, using nasal saline sprays and drops etc.

Neti pot is one of the nasal irrigation methods which clear the nasal congestion effectively. The technique includes a small bowl shaped dish which is spout on one of its end where it is filled with salt water; this has to be inserted into one of the nostril of the nose. When you tip your head up automatically the saline solution present in the pot flows through the nasal passage and also flows through the other nostril. In this way it cleans the nasal air passage and relieves us from the blocked nose.

You can try a small flexible nasal strip, which can be applied at the nose tip. These strips relieves from the blocked nose by lifting the passages there by allowing the air to pass through easily. You can experience an easier breath after using these strips.

Most of the times blocked nose finds solution at home but sometimes it may be serious. If it continues for more than a week please do consult your doctor, it may also lead to your face swelling causing throat pain, white and yellow spots on your face etc.

It may be also due to some allergies hence the doctor may prescribe you an allergy test as well as blood test and an X-ray to find out the severity of the blockage.
