Sony Ericsson has unveiled its new W995 mobile which is said to be the progeny of Walkman and Cyber-Shots’ love life. By unveiling this mobile, Sony Ericsson has set up a strong competition in the market. So, it will be a tough decision for you to select a good mobile in the present market. W995 is said to be the supreme attributed and outfitted phone which is popularly known as the ‘Hikaru’. This is said to be at the top most position in the company portfolio amongst mobiles. W995 is said to have the biggest screen in the entire Sony Ericsson attributed phones to this date. It is also equipped with the GPS, complete set of connectivity alternatives, immense user interface and Wi-Fi, all of which put together gives a high-end phone from Sony Ericsson.
From the Cyber-Shot line you have an 8MP camera and a 4.0 player from the Walkman side, which both joined together gives a perfect background to W995 for the unprecedented blend of imaging and music. In the Walkman all the bare requirements are provided such as SensMe and Shake control. Thus, W995 is supposed to have everything conjugating. Now let’s check out the key features of this mobile.
W995 is fabricated with 2.6-inch TFT display of 256K colors and QVGA resolution, brushed metal body parts, 8.1MP camera with auto focus, geo tagging, LED flash and face detection, Quad-band GSM, dual band HSDPA, WQVGA video recording, Wi-Fi with DLNA support, GPS which is built-in with the A-GPS functionality, accelerometer sensor, Bluetooth and USB V2.0, stereo speakers, 118MB internal memory and M2 memory expansion, 3.5mm audio jack, multi-tasking support, kickstand, FM radio with RDS, Walkman 4.0 music player with SensMe and Shake control, smart dialing, nice sliding mechanism and a comfortable keypad.
W995 can’t be judged as a beautiful mobile because it doesn’t accomplish the advanced aesthetic looks as it is a black brick like structure which hardly seems to be pretty. Its only innovation is performed by slotting in the elements of light furnishings. The inserts and the keys are painted with silver color on the lower ends and towards the upper ends of the keys. The upper ends are small allowing the quick deposit of dust into it but they are vibrant. Back of the W995, a metal frame which has a special handle for placing the phone on even surface or resting on the table, is present.
The design of the frame behind has a versatile usage and is outstanding, like it can be used as a holder for the strap etc. To the right of the phone, buttons are banged out for camera, volume rocker and player management. Universal connector player and the start key are present on the left side of the phone. The dominant black color of the phone is watered down by the presence of plastic which is grey in color and bedecked with circles which gives a very funky look at the flipside of the upper top wad. This phone is quite inconvenient to be held in hand because of the material which it is made up of, makes it slip away from hand.
As this phone is chock-a-block with keys, never will an error or confusion occurs while using those buttons because these keys are distanced with an ease to use. This is the major add up feature in the phone which recommends you to choose this mobile. Some of the keys like dialing key should be carefully pressed using your finger nail because when finger pad is used, it covers up two buttons at a time which ends up in some problem. Another adverse stuff regarding the buttons is that they are not much above the surface of the phone, thus denying giving the feel of that button touch.
The symbols over the phone are decipherable in the dark but the white light is not that much intense. While you are on a call governing the volume of the speaker is not that much convenient. The button provided to drive this utility is not handy and also is petite in structure. The screen size of 2.6-inch is ultimate for this kinda phones thus bestowing a qualitative, bright, luscious colored, great screening angled and ultra superior grain flaunt. The noticing point here is that, the display of the menu icons on the screen, are of large font size which helps the poor eyesight users. The menu is logical, simple and not inhibitory.
W995is built in with the 8MP auto focus camera with a LED flash. Three secs will be taken to display the image after switching on the power button and two secs more will be taken to take the white balance. The screenshot displays the functions which are available to the user. The face detection doesn’t work much effectively. When you are in the manual mode, you can get sharp pictures which are taken at the closer vicinity than taking the images in fully automatic mode which is kinda stubborn. Image quality is pretty ok. As GPS is present in this phone, Google maps can be used to view the places you want and also you can put the geo makers on the images.
Headphones usage is pleasing with the decent volume. The SensMe feature present helps in maintaining the tempo of the songs. ‘Fade in & Fade out’ feature works out very pleasantly and also you can rewind the songs stylishly. You can use the side buttons even by closing your eyes after adjusting with it for a while. Two headphone pairs can be connected with the presence of two slots of connectors. The speaker quality is good as told before and the songs when heard in public places produce a decent sound quality. RDS works correctly with the system and same with the radio. TackID function incorporated in the phone will be always at your service.
Coming to the games part, this phone is accomplished with only full versioned games and demos. Wi-fi connectivity present in the system works with an average. Way finder or the Google maps helps in navigation process. Five alarms which are different from each other can be tuned gauzily. An 8GB memory card will be given with this package. Now, having these many pros, any mobile in the market will be of great confront and gives a good competition to the other phones existing at that time. I know that you are eagerly waiting to have this phone in your hand, but its now time to look into some of the cons of this phone. There’s no lens protection, more reliable kickstand construction, video recording is limited to WQVGA, no video support for DivX/XviD, no office doc viewer. Even though this phone is expected to hit the market round the corner of 2009 Q2, I mean this year end, the price of the phone is vacillating. Hope this will be a good rival to the other similar phones!
