Introduction:
Nokia has revealed its new phone 7510 Supernova is a flip Quad-Band GSM phone. The support for GPRS and EDGE for data is provided by this phone. For UMA calling there is a built-in Wi-Fi. A 2MP camera, slot for microSD card for video, image and music storage and 2.1 Bluetooth + EDR are included with this phone and this runs on Series 40 platform from Nokia. Unlike the higher mobiles from Nokia like N79, 7510 also arrives with 3 different colored interchangeable Xpress-On swathes. Thus, which ever color cover you want amongst those 3 colors, can be chosen as the cover.
Design:
This mobile is a sleek and slim phone which is built well. Difference with the other mobiles are the covers which comes in 3 types; Expresso brown, emerald green and fatal red. Xpress-on covers shows the time and the pattern while the phone is in the mode of standby. The track and the artist’s names when the music is played in the background are displayed on the flip cover when the phone is closed. The cover faceplates can be interchanged or mixed up in combos of two. Leaving the cover faceplates, the whole body look like metal brushed even with the flip. When the flip is opened there is a mirror like metallic keypad surface and there is a display which is surrounding the bezel.
The metallic surface acts like a magnet for fingerprints but it looks great actually! The directional pad and the keys are huge and are easy to operate but the surface is quite slippery. The maneuvering is crammed which makes the blind dialing difficult and also playing the games which contains fast traveling is difficult. There are some ports and controls at the side of the phone which includes a port for charging, 2.5mm jack for audio, volume rocker and port for mini-USB. Slot for microSD card is beneath the battery flap where removal of battery isn’t required and provision for SIM card is underneath the battery. Camera of 2MP is present on the flip at the front with LED flash.
Features:
The dimension of this phone is 3.6in x 1.8in x 0.7in and weighs around 4.4oz. The native resolution of the camera is 240 x 320pixels. The display is 2inch TFT screen with QVGA and 16million colors. There is an internal memory of 26MB built-in with this phone. This phone is of GSM quad-band type and 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz EDGE / GPRS 32 class for data. The camera provided here is of 2MP with digital zoom of 4x. The resolution of still images ranges from 120 x 160, 320 x 240, 480 x 640, 600 x 800, 960 x 1280, 1200 x 1600pixels.
Even video can be taken with the audio and the resolution of the videos are of 2 kinds; one is 128 x 96 and other is 176 x 144pixels. 2.1version Bluetooth plus EDR are provided in this phone. The profiles like hands-free, headset, SIM access, transfer of files, DUN, serial ports, generic object exchange, generic access, generic video / audio distribution, AVRCP and A2DP are supported. The media player offered with this phone can play in AAC, MP3 and AAC+ format files onboard. There is also an FM Radio and a stereo 2.5mm audio jack. Vibration alerts are supported and also some of the voice memos can be recorded.
For expansion a slot for microSD card has been provided and also this phone supports the SDHC cards. Series 40 platform from Nokia software runs in this phone. Some extra tools are supported by this phone viz., HTML full browser, myFaves and Web-Based IM. Some of the PIM tools which are supported by this phone are calendar, alarm clock, phonebook, calculator, stopwatch, countdown timer, converter, world clock and notes. There is a standard Li-Ion 870mAh rechargeable battery offered with this phone and also stereo wired headset, AC charger, printed manual and faceplates. The talk time of the battery is 3hrs and stand by time is up to 12 days.
Performance:
The quality of the call is fairly good and don’t ever grasp the phone at the bottom, beneath the keypad where the reception of the signal drops by 2 bars. Quality of voice is also good when conversing and loud when heard in speaker and also via earpiece. The DSP worked efficiently albeit the background noise. Some of the common features like call waiting, caller ID, speeddial and call forwarding are supported by the phone. Voice dialing and commanding is allowed in this phone. If Wi-Fi access is there then domestic calls can be made through this without any cut in your bill.
The browser provided in this phone supports history, cookies, security and many more with supporting the JavaScript, xHTML and dHTML. The images and pages are rendered full. Advanced apps like Opera Mini, Youtube and Google Maps can’t be accessed from this phone. 2.0 Flash Lite is included in this phone but Youtube can’t be played but media played which is embedded in the phone runs automatically. The media player in here is excellent and music play back is awesome and sounds loud and great. With the stereo headset, the music sounds superbly.
In media player you can shuffle, stereo widen, repeat the equalizer, set the themes and see the play-list the songs. The screen of the phone looks razor-sharp, vivid and the colors are saturated while playing games and while video play backing. The buttons surrounding the d-pad are spacious hence allowing good gaming. Some of the games like Pac Man and Galaga show some of the audio problems while playing and that is negligible. When the wired headset is plugged into the phone, FM gets connected via its antenna. The sound from radio is not that much great. You can save the radio stations and also visual radio is offered.
Outline:
Nokia 7510 has been built up with the right ingredients like brilliant voice quality, very cool designs of faceplates, quad band, pretty media player for video and music which are needful for the low-end and low-priced phones. It seems to be a good phone by offering a bit zing to its features. This phone is not suitable for the higher end users and if they plan of using this phone, it feels very disgusting but this phone is a robust one with many pretty features. Even the quality of build is sturdy. The hitch part in this phone is the battery life. If it would have been better, then finding out the hitches in this phone would have been difficult.
Albeit having robust and slim structure, good voice quality and reception, provision of UMA, grand media player for video and music play-back, sharp and loud speakers and a good web browser, there is a slippery keypad which makes maneuvering fussy and battery drains up very fast. Lastly coming to the price of the phone, it costs about $49.99 with a two year deal after discount and mail-in rebate and costs $199.99 without any deal!!
