Review on Motorola Debut i856
Motorola, being a leading company in manufacturing mobiles and other electronic goods has now made nude its new device Debut i856 which is a slider phone. This phone is sporty and sleek in design. There is a navigating huddle which is glossy and it toggles from a trivial layout to multimedia layout whenever the music player is commenced. Some of the important features at a glance include 1.3MP camera, micorSD expansion slot and 3.5mm standard headphone jack.
Design:
Debut design is mind blowing and very pretty. This phone is regarded as a first iDEN slider to strike the market. The design is compact and there is a rare internal antenna in the PTT World. When Debut is held in hand, it feels very pleasing and great! The display of the Debut is 2.2in TFT with a native resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. Though this phone is regarded as a music phone, the screen just swipes off fine like a normal one. When the sunlight is directly on the display, the display icons doesn’t wash out.
There is a navigation huddle just below the display which has a traditional layout by default. There is a 5 way D-pad, send / end buttons and two soft buttons. There are 2 hard buttons present on the sides of the D-pad, one is the Menu button which is at the left and at the right is the Music button. Whenever the music player is triggered, the D-pad morphs itself into a multimedia layout where in you can forward / back the tracks and also do the play / pause functions. Debut can be kept in the pocket and the mechanism of slider is robust. All over the design of the Debut is magnificent.
Features:
There is a 12 key dial pad when you slide the Debut. On the continuous keypad, the numbers individually are raised and the column in the middle is bigger but it is very hard to make out the buttons only by feel. These keys don’t give a comfy feeling but offers a click when the key is pressed. There is a volume rocker, speaker button and a direct connect button at the left side of the phone from top to bottom. At the bottom right is the 3.5mm standard audio jack and at the bottom left is the microUSB charging port. The rear side of the phone is very smooth and soft as it is coated with the non-descript analyd.
When you slide open the phone, you find 1.3MP camera at the back. Debut offers some of the software which is helpful in many ways. There is a menu system which is consolidated and many of the stuffs are handy from the Home Screen. Some of the most redundant and different stuffs are offered by the main menu on the home screen. On the home screen there are around 10 stuffs but only 9 are on the main menu. Tools and Web are available in the main menu but not on the home screen. Customization can’t be done in this phone.
Performance:
Feature of threaded messaging is offered by the Debut only when the user has enabled that option. Here messaging if quite frustrating and these are sent as MMS whether a multimedia item is attached or not. Corporate and personal emails can be accessed via Sprint Mobile Email. The experience of web is quite a misery but that is what is expected from network of iDEN. Debut has 2.1 Bluetooth which has been supported by a stereo. The quality of sound from the music player was bit well and the microSDHC expansion is supported by the Debut but no headphone or memory card is offered with this phone.
There are very sparse accessories included with the Debut for the price they offer. The quality of call was of very high-quality and pleasing. No complaints are found till now about the call quality. Echoes are heard rarely. There is 3.5hrs talk time of battery life which is fairly poor. The stand by time is around 4 days which is a negative aspect of the phone. When the mobile is used heavily, the battery life lasts long till a day and again you need to charge fully for the next day.
Outline:
Motorola debut is a pretty good phone for what it is. For a price of $100, this iDEN phone is worth buying. Even though the display is not of a high quality, the design quality is superior which catches everybody’s eyes and heart! Only hitch is that the battery life is low which could have been improved a lot but the quality of call is a excellent. Hence stared as a Sexy iDen slider!!
