A new iPhone worm is spotted but this time it is very serious. The previous abuse has made a mere change in jailbroken iPhone’s wallpaper; this new worm has allowed hackers to take off the sensitive data.
According to Sophos, one of the security firms, which gave explanation after a Dutch ISP which was spotted recently, the worm targets only the jailbroken iPod Touch and iPhone devices.
Sophos wrote in one of the blog post on Saturday which tells that the worm has used a command-and-control unlike a traditional PC botnet. It also gave explanation saying that the worm configures two scripts, where one of the scripts is meant for executing the worm on boot-up and the remaining script for creating a connection to a server in order to upload stolen data and give up control to the bot master.
Jailbreaking enables iPod Touch and iPhone users to download apps which are unavailable via Apple’s App Store.
Sophos even continued telling that the worm attacks many users on several ISPs which include Optus in Australia, UPC in Netherlands and also T-mobile all over the world. The fact is that the worm spreads very fast in Wi-Fi connection over a 3G connection. Users, who are affected with worm, experience acute battery life when it is used with Wi-Fi. It tells that the shortage of battery is due to the worm that engages itself in the network activity.
The worm is assigned a distinct number so once it enters the device, attackers can find out a single device easily. It mainly searches the systems that use SMS which are specifically known as mTANs. These mTANs are normally used by banking system in order to send messages regarding password to mobile phones, which allows users to log in to their online accounts.
Hence the warm is considered bit serious. Sophos has advised the users with worm infected iPod Touch and iPhone devices to restore those devices back to Apple’s most recently updated firmware. There is no other alternative to solve this problem.
