Nokia N85 Review

This NSeries is among one of the acclaimed handsets of Nokia. It resembles the previous N81 but has got the high end devices in it. The N85’s slider form and the keypad layout are same as N81 predecessor; in addition, it has some stylish appearance.
The N85 has got many goodies stuffed and also it is of lower price. You can go with the Nokia slider as N85 don’t have much of the latest technology concepts.

In October 2008, this is brought to the market. They designed in two: Black and Copper.

Design:

It has a stylish look. The N81 is considered bad in functionality and also in design, but the N85 has got improvements compared with its previous sliders. It is slimmer then the N81. The N85 size is 103 x 50 x 16 mm and 128g in weight. It has 2.6inch display. A very small light ambient sensor, secondary video call camera, the earphone speaker are present above the screen. It has four music keys that can also be used for playing various games. Its a 5 mega pixel camera.

Camera and its display

AMOLED screen is used that measures 2.6inch and 16 million colors are supported having a pixel resolution of 240×320. The AMOLED screen uses a sensor named accelerometer for auto-rotate purpose. The quality of the display is excellent. Auto focus, dual LED flash and Carl Zeiss lenses are included, the camera seems to be small than that of N95. N85 supports maximum resolution of 2582×1944 pixel. In five modes the image can be shooted. The camera has got protection for the lenses and supports geotagging.

Menu and the Software used

The operating system used is Symbian version 9.3, 3rd Edition of S60 and also Feature Pack 2 interface. Feature pack is used to provide both performance and visual. The task manager is another FP2 giving quick access to applications running in the background. In the Menu, it also includes Maps utilities where maps make use of receiver ( GPS) and can access Nokia maps and directions. There is a Quick office application allowing us to read power point files, word, excel and also contains a currency converter, a notepad ,PDF reader, and a Zip activators .

Tools already there on the handset are email, web organizer, IM, office tools, applications manager, synchronization tools, connectivity wizard, GPS navigator, etc

Communications and the technology used

A quad band based handset is used which involves GSM (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900), compatible with HSDPA, containing Wi-Fi 802.11 EDGE 32 class (296 kbps), High-Speed Circuit-Switched Data (57.6 kbps) and GPRS class 32 (107 kbps) and also Tested with the EDGE and 3G networks. Bluetooth 2.0 is the connectivity tool and supports the A2DP, and micro USB for PC synchronization. The speed of this Bluetooth is 122 KB/s at the sending end, and 154 KB/s at the receiving end. The information when an USB cable is connected can be seen by using four modes they are Mass storage, Image transfer, PC Suite and Media transfer.

It works well for all types of messages. The network compatible slider named quad-band has a good reception for the GSM signal.

Memory and the processing speed

A dual ARM11 is of processor family is powered and runs at a speed of 369 MHz. The handset has user free internal memory of 85MB and SDRAM memory 128 MB of. We can extend the storage area to another 8GB with the help of hot-swappable micro SD slot card.

Multimedia:

A multimedia device N85 supports all type of music file like, eAAC, eAAC+, MP3, AAC WMA, M4A and also the play lists. An option is present to get the advantage of Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP where music is listened wirelessly.

The music player has options and settings: Stereo Widening, Balance, Loudness, Visualizations, Equalizer, or Shuffle and used for FM Radio, which memorize up to 50 base stations The music quality is best in this NSeries and much better than N81 and N96 predecessors.

Battery:

A 1200 mAh Li-Ion is a battery of 5K capacity having a life expectancy for standby of 363 hours (360 hours for 3G) and for talk-time mode of 6 hours and 50 minutes (4 hours and 30 minutes for 3G).

Impressions:

Nokia N85 is a good choice for one who loves using slider phone sets and also are of lowest price with many features built in it.
