JooJoo Tablet Review

1

JooJoo Tablet, the device that runs on an Intel Atom Processor of 1.6GHz capacity with a RAM of 1GB memory. It houses a multitouch screen which measures 12 inches, has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. The graphics part combines GPU and the CPU type and also resembles an Nvidia Ion chipset. The device is capable of playing 1080p YouTube videos and it is also found that it has a very good Nvidia acceleration for HD.

It also equips an accelerometer whose function is to take care of the orientations. Some of the important features that come with the tablet are a microphone jack, 3.5 mm headphone jack, 1.3 megapixel webcam which is built-in, ports for charging and a USB slot. It also supports the plug-in of a 3G card. The model also houses built-in speakers which plays back audios pretty good in quality.

Overall Feel

Browsing experience on the JooJoo Tablet is quite good. Page loading is pretty fast, which can’t be compared with the Chrome. The device handles the Tab switching animation and the transitions very gently. The model is very fast and is capable of handling gestures very fine. Other gestures like two finger swiping to go back and a book mark swipe will be included in the final build of the product. An odd thing you will notice is the problem in zooming the text since the pinching has occurred already while going in and out of the windows into your home screen and also due to the size of the screen (12 inches).

The home screen of the JooJoo is composed of several icons, shortcuts and web applications. You can easily customize the screen with the help of your own apps and simultaneously you witness an odd feature which displays a different background color each time you go back.

Fusion Garage says that they have included some APIs for the Webapps in order to incorporate for the passing notification to the users for multitasking purpose. For example: if the user is watching a particular video in the YouTube and simultaneously if a Twitter gets refreshed in one more window then it results in a popping up of a window which tells the user that something else is going on other than this. The APIs are made available at the launching time but it is left to the websites whether to support them or not.

The outside body of the JooJoo tablet is sturdy and solid. It does not feel heavy instead it is light where the rear end is made curved, made up of a hybrid plastic which is convenient to hold. The Browser of the tablet resembles Google Chrome and Safari based on the same engine and that is Webkit. Fusion Garage also made an announcement that it can design an even larger sized tablet, the 12 inches being the smallest of all.

The keyboard is not compatible for fast typing, prone to human errors. One more weird fact with it is the users’ find unable to save their photos and files locally and also unable to access the memory storage of 4GB. Lastly, it can’t even support PDF, rather seeks help from online Google Docs in order to read the PDF files.

Verdict

JooJoo is a solid tablet if you consider a tablet based on Chrome OS concept. Fusion Garage has done an excellent job in designing the Video and the multimedia part of the device. Orders are taken from this weekend but the shipping of the device starts 8 weeks later. It comes with a price tag of $500.
