Dental floss is known to be one of the best means of keeping the oral hygiene. Dental floss must be used gently because it may damage the external of the tooth and also the gums. Dentist says that it is better to floss the teeth once in a day. According to American Dental Association, flossing must be done by curving the floss against the side surfaces of the tooth. Dental floss can remove the remained food particles in the teeth gaps except in the regions below the contact point between gums and the teeth. Floss comes in the form of long threads of variable length; it is usually rolled and placed in a plastic container. It also comes with a blade for the purpose to cut it and take the required amount of floss. One of the main manufacturers of good quality floss is the toothpaste manufacturing company “Colgate”.
The effectiveness of flossing depends upon the technique of floss but not on the frequency of flossing. One must know the proper and effective flossing technique since improper flossing technique leads to removal of enamel layer due to the excess pressure exerted on it by a thread, and also some times bleeding of gums occurs. It is better to floss our teeth before going to bed, to get the best results of flossing. Because saliva will be in the less quantity in that time and the possibility of bacteria growing is more and hence it results in dental plaque.
