Scientifically speaking, the main cause for the heel pain is the protruding of the plantar fascia and also due to the lack of arch support. It happens due to the constant stretching thus it can occur in any age group people irrespective of the person’s weight. This stretching also results in tearing at the edges where this plantar fascia comes in conjunction with heel-bone. In that condition, you may experience a severe pain on the heel bottoms especially when you are fallen asleep or when you sit for a prolonged period of time.

In worst conditions, this tearing at the edges results in minor bleeding, that causes swelling and further stretching of plantar fascia. Simultaneously, what happens is the congestion of the tarsal tunnel that causes numbness of the toes and results in the back pain of the legs. Tight calves are the usual cause for the athlete’s heel pain and one more important cause is wearing high heeled shoes and sandals because the feet needs to maintain a tip-toe posture for a long period which results in stretching.
