Dark Side of Chemotherapy

Cancer is nothing but the spontaneous, uncontrolled division of the body cells and their growth to form a tumor. The distinct Characteristic of the cancer cells is migration from primitive cell area to secondary cell area. This division is due to the uncontrolled mechanism of the growing body cells and they form clusters. The basic cause for this type of division is replication of DNA or RNA cells. This cell growth process is accompanied by large amount of energy hence the patient suffering from this disease loses weight. Even though doctors has found several therapies to diagnose this disease, cancer seems to be non curable.

Chemotherapy, one of the modes of treatment for the cancer suffering patients. Chemotherapy finds one of the major roles in the treatment of the cancer because it mainly concentrates on the replication of cells. It contains the chemicals or the drugs which is capable of destroying the cancerous cells at the rate equal to the rate of generation of the cancerous cells.

One of the main disadvantage of this treatment is not only the drug fights against the cancer affected  cells but also the normal healthy cells due to the fact that unlike cancerous cells, even the blood cells, cells in nose, nail, hair, vagina also undergoes continuous division. This tells that chemotherapy affects them too.

Major Side Effects of Chemotherapy treatment

• Blood count goes down during the treatment especially the white blood cells which are responsible for fighting against infections, fever. Thus the patient may have fever during the treatment hence he or she may require transfusion of blood.
• Loss of Hair is the generally observed side effect seen in this type of treatments. Percentage of affecting the body cells depends upon the drugs or the combination of drug
• These Side Effects causes sore throat, finding difficulty to swallow food, inconvenience and discomfort too.
