Asus UL50AG-RBBBK05 Review

The ‘Asus UL50AG’ has a screen of 15.6 inches and situated in the higher range of mainstream laptops. It has a weight of 5.2 pounds and is light. It includes an optical drive and a battery which has a long lifetime. The price of this laptop is quite affordable and has a graceful design. It is sleek and very comfortable displaying clear lines and efficient style. A very thin lid of black metal that is brushed reveals a keyboard area covered in a matte black which is rubberized.

The laptop consists of a keyboard that is raised, which has a keypad situated atop a soft, matte, black touch pad and a plastic button bar made of chrome. The gleamy screen is framed in simple shiny plastic. The subtlety of the design is excellent. The device can feature a DVD optical drive in its slim frame. The Core 2 processor used in this laptop consumes little power and hence operates at low speeds. This makes the laptop under powered and might not be accepted by the customers planning to buy a 15” laptop.

To the top left and right corners of the keyboard, you have two power buttons made of chrome. One of them will boot Windows 7 while the other releases an OS environment of Express Gate Splashtop, a faster bootable mini-OS with email, a trimmed Web browser and other important programs. The Express Gate’s idea is to provide a quick start up for quick tasks without having to boot Windows 7. The text and the icons look bright and clear. The gleamy LED screen has a resolution of 1,366×768 pixels.

Videos play very well and the stereo speakers located beneath the keyboard have pretty good volume and great clarity. You have a Webcam which is built in, having an adequate resolution and quality of video. It also included some strange Asus video modes and photo games. With the optical drive, the laptop has an entire set of features and ports which are expected from the device. Bluetooth is absent. But, the complement of 802.11n Wi-Fi and HDMI are classic substitutes as wireless connectivity’s.

The laptop features a 4GB of RAM, and a hard drive of 500GB. The processor, as mentioned earlier, has a low speed but it can still be used for multi tasking. But, the performance is slow. The laptop cannot be used for serious tasks of multimedia. The 8-cell battery of the laptop lasted for five hours and eight minutes, which is quite good. Asus provides a 1 year accidental and 2 year global warranty for this laptop. Web support through the company’s website and tech support through voice is provided via a toll free number.
